Doctrine of Godliness – I Timothy 6:3

thegracegospelchur

“If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness” (I Timothy 6:3 KJV).

There are two types of doctrine in the world. There is the doctrine of “Godliness,” and there is the doctrine of “ungodliness.” The doctrine of Godliness says that Jesus Christ has done all the work: IT IS FINISHED! Jesus Christ paid for all sin at the Cross of Calvary. When we say “all” sin, we are saying He paid for all sin of the past, all sin of the present, and all sin of the future. Every sin that man ever has done, presently doing and will do in the future, has already been paid in full at the Cross of Calvary. Godly doctrine tells us that Jesus Christ is God, and only He can pay for ALL sin (past, present, and future). Jesus Christ was buried, which was a witness to the world the He died for all sin. Jesus Christ resurrected from the grave the third day to show us payment for sin is paid in full. The doctrine of Godliness is sound, and it is the words of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The doctrine of ungodliness denies Jesus Christ deity. The doctrine of ungodliness tells individuals that they have to earn salvation. The doctrine of ungodliness wants individuals to think they can lose their salvation or lose eternal life. Ungodly, teachers tell others they can lose their salvation or eternal life because of sin. The doctrine of ungodliness tells individuals Jesus Christ did not pay for all sin at the Cross of Calvary. The doctrine of ungodliness denies Jesus Christ as the Son of God, and they say, “IT IS NOT FINISHED.” The doctrine of ungodliness is ugly, unsound, and highlights mans’ efforts and disgraces the Finished Redemptive Work of Jesus Christ.

Ungodly doctrine is unsound. Ungodly doctrine is rooted in pridefulness: rituals, sacraments, traditions, and works of men. Unsound doctrine knows nothing; it is a bell without a chime. The unsound or ungodly doctrine makes more questions than answers. The unsound or ungodly doctrine makes men want to argue. The unsound or ungodly doctrine corrupts minds. The unsound or ungodly doctrine opposes the truth. The unsound or ungodly doctrine teaches “gain is godliness.” Gain is not Godliness. The religions around the world are getting rich off of the elderly, widows, and the poor. “If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself” (I Timothy 6:3-5 KJV). The unsound or ungodly doctrine claims to know Jesus and the Father; however, they do not know Him in truth and righteousness, nor do they know the Father. Anyone that preaches anything other than the Gospel of Jesus Christ for salvation is the doctrine of ungodliness.

The Bible teaches that if a person hears unsound or ungodly doctrine, they need to remove themselves immediately. This is exactly the reason a pastor needs to labor in the Word and Doctrine. “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine” (I Timothy 5:17 KJV). It is the pastor's responsibility to make sure they are sharing Godly doctrine –the words of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The doctrine of Godliness says if a person knows the Son, that person knows the Father. “Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also” (John 8:19 KJV). The Godly doctrine says if a person knows the Father, the person knows the Son. “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed” (II John 1:9-10 KJV). The Godly doctrine says if a person denies Jesus Christ as their Savior, they do not know the Father. “He that hateth me hateth my Father also” (John 15:23 KJV). Godly doctrine, the doctrine of Christ, says for a person to know the Father, they must know the Son, Jesus Christ.

Godly doctrine is life eternal. When a person believes in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a person receives eternal life. How does a person know if they are saved? They know they are saved when they know they have eternal life and can never lose their salvation. Jesus Christ wants you to know you have eternal life. Jesus Christ wants you to know you can have confidence in His Finished Redemptive Work because He is God, and only God can make a perfect sacrifice for sin, and only God can make a promise and deliver on the promise that you have eternal life. There is no confidence in religion. There is no confidence in rituals, sacraments, traditions or works of men! There is no confidence in ungodly doctrine. However, there is confidence in Jesus Christ; there is confidence in Godly doctrine, the Words of our Lord Jesus Christ. Believe He died on the Cross for your sins, buried, and resurrected for you and be born again. Trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation! Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, documented in the scriptures alone, so, God receives the glory alone.

The doctrine, according to Godliness, is the words of Jesus Christ, not the words of mankind. The doctrine of Godliness is sound. The doctrine of Godliness is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. “For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust” (I Timothy 1:10-11 KJV). The glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ is a Godly doctrine.

THE PLAN OF SALVATION - THE GOSPEL

The Gospel is Jesus Christ died on the Cross for our sins (past, present, and future), He was buried, and He resurrected the third day to show us the payment for sin is paid in full.

  • I Corinthians 15:1-4: Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

God loves you. Lord Savior Jesus Christ was revealed in the flesh for one reason, and that is to save us from our sins. Jesus Christ does not come to condemn individuals. Jesus Christ comes to save us because we are all Hell doomed sinners without the Blood of Jesus Christ.

  • John 3:16-18: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

All individuals are sinners. The payment for sin is death.

  • Romans 3:23: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

  • Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Christ died for your sin and resurrected for you.

  • II Corinthians 5:21: For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

  • I Corinthians 15:3-4: For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

If you believe in Christ alone, you receive eternal life.

  • John 6:47: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

  • I John 5:13: These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

If you could be saved by being water baptized, doing good works, being a good person or following the Ten Commandments, why did (the God from Eternity Past, the God from Eternity Future) the Ever Presence Jesus Christ reveal Himself in the flesh and die on the Cross and resurrect the third day?

  • Galatians 2:21: I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

If you could earn salvation by doing those things, then Jesus Christ died in vain. However, Jesus Christ didn’t die in vain. Jesus Christ made a perfect sacrifice for sin. He is the Lamb of God, and only the Lamb of God can make a perfect sacrifice for sin. There is only one way to Heaven, and it is the belief in the Finished Redemptive Work of Jesus Christ.

  • Ephesians 2:8-9: For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.

  • Philippians 3:9: And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

  • Galatians 2:16: Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

  • Titus 3:5: Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

The resurrection is proof God the Father accepted Jesus Christ death payment for sin -death payment of past, present, and future sin.

People DO NOT go to Hell because they are “bad.” People go to Hell because they believe NOT the Gospel of Jesus Christ. People trust NOT in Jesus Christ as their Savior. People believe NOT Jesus Christ died on the Cross for their sins, burial, and resurrection. People do NOT trust alone in the finished redemptive work of Jesus Christ.

  • II Thessalonians 1:8-9: In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

Know that God is gracious to you, and He has already died for all your sins (past, present, and future), He was buried showing all the world He died for your sins, and He resurrected showing all the world that Jesus Christ fulfilled what the Father asked Him to do: IT IS FINISHED!

I pray you to believe in Jesus Christ right now for salvation -believe Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sin, burial, and resurrection. Trust alone in Jesus Christ as your Savior.

If you know someone who is not saved, forward this message to them and share the greatest gift that one could ever receive.

Once Saved, Always Saved -"And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one." (John 10:28-30 KJV)
