The Romans Road to Salvation

Introduction: Everyone wants to go to heaven and the way to get there is simple, but you must come God’s way. I want to give you the Romans Road to Salvation for two reasons: 1. first, if you are not saved you will know how to get saved. 2. Secondly, you can take these verses and win your family and others to Christ. Write down in your Bible beside the verse I give you a number as I tell you and circle it.

Turn to Romans 3:10

1. At Romans 3:10 put a 1.in the margin and circle it and write 3:23 beside it. “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” People tend to think because they were Baptist in this or that Church, or they try their best to do good and keep the commandments that, those things somehow make them okay, or righteous. God said NO ONE IS RIGHTEOUS, that means me, and that means YOU.

2. Romans 3:23 put a 2. In your margin and circle it and write 5:12 beside it. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Every one of us has sinned. Not only that but we fall short of the glory of God continually. This means when we stand before a holy God we are defiled, dirty and unfit to be in his presence. The reason for this is in our next verse, Romans 5:12.

3. Romans 5:12 Put a 3 and circle it and put 5:8 beside it. “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Adam sinned and passed down to his descendants the inclination to sin. We sin and die spiritually, and physically. Notice this verse says, DEATH BY SIN. You and I are under a death sentence, we are on death row, so to speak…but there is hope! Back up to Romans 5:8.

4. Romans 5:8 Put a 4, circle it and write 6:23 beside it. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died FOR US.” People make the mistake of thinking they must clean up their lives before they come to God. They turn over a new leaf, start going to Church, get baptized, and stop doing bad things, thinking NOW God will accept me. That’s like a Caboose trying to pull the train! God says here that while we were YET sinners, Christ died for us.

5. Romans 6:23 Put a 5 and circle it and write 10:13 beside it. “For the wages of sin is death; but the GIFT of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” A wage is something you work for and earn. Sin’s wages is death. Notice God’s GIFT: eternal life. What is eternal life? That’s a very churchy word, but what does it mean? If the world was a solid marble and a dove came by every million years and brushed the marble earth with the tip of its wing, by the time the doves wind would wear out and dissolve the earth into nothing, eternity would just be starting. Eternity is forever and forever and forever, without an end. Eternal life never ends! This is God gift to you if you will except it. How do you accept this gift? By believing on Christ Jesus.

6. Romans 10:13 Put a 6 and circle it and write 3:20 beside it. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” You mean it’s that easy? All I have to do is believe enough to call on God and he will save me? If you are drowning and you say help and someone saves you that simple yell for help is all that’s required. The lifeguard is setting right there. Does he say, They don’t deserve it? Or they weren’t sincere enough? No, he jumps in and saves you. You don’t have to even say the word help with God, because he reads your minds, all of us. He knows when we sit down or stand up. He is the star-breathing God who is so big he can’t fit in any of our little boxes.

7. Romans 3:20 Put a 7, circle it and write 10:9,10 beside it. “Therefore by the deed of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” We saw in 10:13 that salvation is a gift of God. This verse shows us that it is not by keeping God’s commandments, for his commandments are to show us we can’t be righteous by keeping the law because we have broken his laws and sinned. The law shows us we are sinners and we have seen that the wages for sin is death (physical and spiritual). The majorities of Churches don’t read this verse and therefore are teaching people you must obey the commandments to be saved. That’s a lie. It’s true in a sense, but since we cannot keep them, Christ kept them for us, so when we believe on him God put his keeping the commandments to our account. Now as believers God doesn’t see your sin, he sees your keeping all the commandments that Jesus kept on your behalf. “For by the law is the knowledge of sin” and this is the purpose of the law for us, so we will know we need a Savior.

8. Romans 10:9,10 Write Acts 16:30,31 in your margin beside this verse. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in thine heart that hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” I have a nephew and niece that are deaf. They can’t confess with their mouth. God isn’t saying you have to speak certain words, he is simple saying that we must acknowledge that Jesus is not just another man, but that he is the Son of God, the Messiah. If you acknowledge him as the Son of God, the Anointed one sent to pay for all sin, and not jus some holy man who lived a long time ago, then all you have to do is believe. In Jewish thinking, the heart was actually the mind. You devised math problems, etc. in your heart. So to believe in your heart is to believe in your mind.

9. Acts 16:30, 31 Write END. This verse is not a part of the Romans Road to Salvation, but I have included it for clarification, because how to be saved is simple and should be simple enough for anyone to be saved. “Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” What can I say to make this any simpler? Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved instantly, right where you are sitting or standing.
